Stefano Mori completed his master's degree at Politecnico di Milano in 2013 and moved to Austria, where he began a seven-year collaboration with Studio Anna Heringer and Lehm Ton Erde-Martin Rauch, two companies specializing in sustainable architecture, that are known worldwide for having developed and implemented many contemporary architectural projects and techniques in connection with clay building. During this time he was responsible for both – the planning and the construction – of projects in Africa, Bangladesh, India, China, Germany, Austria and Italy.
During his studies, Mori was interested in the use of local natural materials and resources for construction. Since then he has been frequently involved in social and humanitarian projects. Since he tends to take a very down-to-earth approach to architecture, he decided to acquire the German craft qualification as a clay building specialist in 2019. In his practice he now regularly combines planning and construction.
In addition to his main occupation, he has always been involved in the conception and implementation of interdisciplinary projects that consist of art, traditional craft and digital manufacturing technologies. He believes that the new technologies and media offer the opportunity to redefine the role of designers and architects in modern society. In particular, he is convinced that digital manufacturing technologies and the open source mindset, alongside regional and traditional know-how are effective tools to work towards a more equitable and more democratic society. He sees the confluence of these three as the key to achieving sustainability in architecture and design.
