Iris Laner studied art education at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, psychology and philosophy at the University of Vienna and MultiMediaArt at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.
After completing her doctorate in 2012, she worked as a research assistant and lecturer at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of St. Gallen and as a lecturer at the Institute for Philosophy at KU Leuven. Since 2016 she has been lecturing at the Institute for Educational Science at the University of Tübingen and since 2017 at the Institute for Art and Cultural Studies at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. In 2019 she was appointed professor of fine arts/art education at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
Her research fields are aesthetic education, aesthetics, epistemology, educational theory, image science and qualitative methods in research into art education. She teaches visual education, philosophy, educational science and art and cultural studies in the field of subject didactics.
