Frauke von Jaruntowski grew up in Rösrath near Cologne. In order to become a teacher she moved to Hamburg. There she obtained her First State Examination for Teachers in 1985.

She then started working for different theatre projects, designing costumes as well as stage settings and decorations. Four years later she took up her studies of Textile Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg. After graduating, Frauke von Jaruntowski opened her own design studio.

Since then she has been working for renowned companies of the upper home textile and porcelain sector, like creation baumann, Kinnasand, Nya Nordiska, Zimmer & Rohde and Rosenthal.

Her professional life has always been very diversified and covers a wide range of activities. It comprises developing exclusive ideas, designing and producing concepts as well as counselling companies during the implementation process of projects.

Some of these products received design awards, e.g. the GOOD DESIGN AWARD, the reddot design award and the Innovationspreis Textil und Objekt.

Since 2013 she has been counselling the collection of Deutsche Steinzeug AG and has worked for Nya Nordiska as an artistic consultant. There she has also been responsible for the development of several products.

In addition to her design activities Frauke von Jaruntowski has been teaching for more than thirteen years. At the Academy of Fashion and Design (AMD) in Hamburg she has been responsible for the subject "Gestaltungslehre", part of the degree course "Raumkonzept und Design" (B.A.).
From 2003 to 2005 she accompanied the research programme „Moden (Er)finden“ at the University of Applied Sciences (HAW) in Hamburg.
This is also where she was head of the department "Technik/Textil und Bekleidung", a degree course for teachers, for many years.

Being a founding member of Kultwerk West, a Hamburg venue for cultural events, she curated a large number of exhibitions and organized events about Fashion and Design, thus raising public awareness for these issues.

This work had great influence on the series of events called CUT UP which was created by the Co-Working-Places STOFFDECK Wilhelmsburg and Frauke von Jaruntowski herself.
CUT UP is a series of discussions which center around the issue of Sustainability in Fashion and Design.

Furthermore, Frauke von Jaruntowski has been working on projects which oscillate between textile and medial art together with Prof Vera Doerk for many years. Local installations were created and shown to the public throughout cultural events and in varying contexts, e.g.:

  • in 2014: "Verwoben" (Interwoven)in the Lübecker Dielenhaus  (Night of the Museums) in Lübeck
  • in 2015: "InnenRäume" (Inner Rooms) in the Deichtorhallen Hamburg (during the Long Night of the Museums)
  • in 2015: "Kunst Meets Schinkel" (Art meets Schinkel), a project for schools together with the Evangelische Schule Neuruppin and the Karl-Friedrich-Schinkelgesellschaft e.V.
