Erik Esterbauer studied Psychology at the Universities of Salzburg and Vienna with postgraduate training as a clinical, health and neuropsychologist. At the same time, he completed studies in “Tonsatz” and composition at the Vienna Conservatory (now Music and Arts Private University of the City of Vienna). He received his doctorate in natural sciences (psychology) at the University of Salzburg with an investigation on the relationship between stress coping and physiological risk factors for stroke, for which he received a research award from the Sozialforum Österreichisches Hilfswerk. In 2009 he expanded his artistic-pedagogical skills by completing his master's degree in elemental music and movement education at the Orff Institute of the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
Erik Esterbauer worked for 20 years as a Clinical Psychologist at the Center for Socially Integrative Development and Learning Support (Zentrum ELF) in Salzburg and as a Clinical Psychologist and Assistant to the Department Head in the department " Psychosocial Rehabilitation" at the Mobiler Hilfsdienst GmbH, Salzburg (now Volkshilfe Salzburg ). He also worked as a clinical psychologist and research associate specializing in neuropsychology at the Christian Doppler Clinic Salzburg.
In 2016 he started working as a university assistant (Post-doc) at the Department of Music Education and since 2017 he is Assistant Professor at the Department of Elemental Music and Dance Education - Orff-Institute with focus on "Music and Dance in Inclusion and Diversity".
