Heike Henning studied church and school music and completed additonal studies in Media Education as well as a PHD in Music Education. After a number of years' teaching practice at primary and secondary level as well as at music schools she has been working as a lecturer in Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy (General Music Pedagogy) and as a teacher for the Choral Conducting for Children’s Choirs and Voice Training for Children at the Nuremberg College of Music. In additon she has filled teaching positions at the University of Regensburg, the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg, the University of Augsburg, the University of Music Würzburg, and the University of Church Music Rottenburg a/N.
For many years she has been in demand nationwide as an expert on the vocal training of children and the conducting of children's choirs,.
She received a doctorate from the University of Music Würzburg under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Barbara Busch with a thesis on the quality of vocal education to children of primary age. Other research priorities include Instrumental and Vocal Practising, Communication in Music Teaching, and Forms and Methods of making music in the Classroom.
Since April 2015 she has been Professor of Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy at the Mozarteum Salzburg, Innsbruck Campus. Her artistic focus is vocal music: She is involved in a great number of choral projects as the director of th eDehnberger Hof Chor and two children's choirs, Die jungen Meistersinger of the Nuremberg University of Music and the Krochordile Rückersdorf. Another field of interest is concert pedagogy. She developed formats for children's concerts in cooperation with the Nuremberg State Theatre, which are regularly put into practice there.
She is a member of the German Association for Research in Music Education (Arbeitskreis für musikpädagogische Forschung/ AMPF), the Federal Association for Teaching Music (Bundesverband Musikunterricht/ BMU), and the foundation Singing with Children (Stiftung Singen-mit-Kindern).
