Sonja Prlić is a media artist, director, dramaturge and artistic researcher. She studied literature at the University of Vienna and dramaturgy at the Hessische Theaterakademie in Frankfurt am Main, artistic computer games at with focus on science and art at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Paris Lodron University Salzburg, where she completed the inter-university doctoral program in “Kunst und Öffentlichkeit”.  

In 1998 she co-founded the artist group gold extra (www.goldextra.com) and has since been working on projects between theater, new media and computer games. Your interest includes the development of new artistic forms for documentary computer games and the potential of artistic computer games for social and political dialogue. Her artistic research dissertation in this field received the Award of Excellence. For her artistic work she has received awards such as the Drama Scholarship from the Republic of Austria, the Outstanding Artist Award and the Salzburg Media Art Prize.  

At the Mozarteum University Salzburg she leads the research project intersection (a cooperation of the MediaLab and gold extra) and researches the synergies of everyday media-cultural experiences of young people and contemporary media art. Schnitt #stellen received the European Youth Culture Award in 2019 in the Science and Research category. She is co-director of the program area contemporary art and cultural production in the cooperation focus science and art. She is also a lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts and Design in the field of graphics.  

Main focus: Artistic research, especially in the field of new media, artistic research with young people, new media and social dialogue, documentary computer games, interdisciplinary art forms.
