Marco Testori began to study the piano very young and thereafter the organ and the cello. At Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Milano he got his diploma in organ and organ composition in 1991 and then his diploma in cello in 1993. After attending some courses with J. Goritzky, M. Flaksmann and E. Bronzi he began to study ancient music in depth at “Schola Cantorum Basilensis” with C. Coin.
He began to collaborate with several groups such as I Barocchisti, Ensemble Baroque de Limoges, Complesso Barocco, Accordone, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Ensemble Dolce e Tempesta, Il Cardellino, Ensemble Claudiana, Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, Ensemble Arte-Musica, La Divina Armonia, Il Suonar Parlante: with these groups he recorded pieces by B. Marcello, A. Bononcini, D.Gabrielli, C. Monteverdi, A. Scarlatti, for record companies like Decca, Opus 111, Naxos, Sony, Amadeus and Fuga Libera. He also took part in several chamber music concerts for Milano Classica, A.S.L.I.C.O. and I Pomeriggi Musicali.
From 1994 to 2004 he was the first cellist of the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico, with which he took part in the most important international festivals (Musica e Poesia a San Maurizio – Milano; Styriarte Festival – Graz; Pfingsten – Salzburg; Osterklang –Wien; Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival; Rheingau Festival; Settimane Musicali Internazionali – Luzern; Festival de Musique – Montreux-Vevey) and he performed in the most famous halls in the world (Teatro San Carlo – Napoli; Concertgebouw – Amsterdam; Wigmore Hall – London; Musikverein – Wien; Konzerthaus – Wien; Théâtre des Champs-Elysées – Paris; Tonhalle – Zurich; Alte Oper – Frankfurt; Staatsoper unter den Linden – Berlin; Auditorio Nacional – Madrid; Auditorium P. Casals – Tokio; Teatro Colon – Buenos Aires; Carnegie Hall - New York; Sydney Opera House). With Il Giardino Armonico he has recorded for Teldec.
He is first cello of the ensemble Atalanta Fugiens conducted by Vanni Moretto; with this group he has recorded for Sony.
He recorded concertos for cello and strings by Nicola Fiorenza, together with the ensemble Dolce & Tempesta.
He has also recorded a CD with Urania Records label performing concertos for cello and orchestra composed by the virtuoso Carlo Graziani and performed together with the ensemble I Musici di Santa Pelagia.
His works include recordings for Radiotelevisione Italiana, RTSI, Bravo TV Canada, Antenne 2 France.
The female choir Convivia Musica in Arcellasco d’Erba (Como) under his direction has won many national competitions.
Some of his harmonizations and elaborations, purposed written for this choir, have received special recognition in choir competitions. The ensemble’s last CD including his harmonisations and elaborations of traditional Italian christmas carols has been published.
He gave masterclasses on classical chamber music and baroque cello in several Italian Conservatorio.
Since October 2013 he has been Professor of baroque cello at Universität Mozarteum Salzburg.
