Harald Sowa was born in Lower Austria. He received his first trumpet lessons at the Pottschach Music School and later moved to Pöttler at the Josef Matthias Hauer Music School.

When he began studying at the university with Adolf Holler and at the jazz conservatory with Robert Politzer in Vienna, he won the audition for the trumpet position in the Theater an der Wien, where he played for one year. From 1983 to 2007 he worked in the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. In 1985 he moved to the Mozarteum University Salzburg. Later he also studied pedagogy at the University of Art in Graz.

From 1985 to 2010 he taught the trumpet at the Musikum Salzburg and from 1998 to 2010 he was the group leader for brass instruments. He is a regular jury member at various competitions (including Prima la Musica, Gradus ad Parnassum), speaker for teacher training in didactics, pedagogy, new media, lecturer at various wind courses and advisory board for Prima La Musica Salzburg and the Salzburg Brass Band. Together with Gerhard Freiinger and Franz Wagnermeyer, he developed the holistic beginners' school Der Trompetentrainer, which enables students to develop their own musical and technical skills through a flexible concept.

He writes compositions especially for teaching at regular intervals with Liming Zhang-Sowa. With the programming of APPs for the musical area of ​​e-learning, he tries to provide support for learners of all ages. Since 2010 he is head of the Musikum Seekirchen.

At the Mozarteum University Salzburg he is a lecturer in vocational preparatory internship for IGP students.
