Dr. Stefan Hackl, born 1954, worked - after his studies at the conservatory and the university of Innsbruck - particularly with historical instruments and playing technique, 19th Century chamber music and folk music as well as research on guitar history. There are numerous publications by Stefan Hackl in different periodicals (Soundboard, Classical Guitar Magazine, Gitarre & Laute, Gitarre aktuell, Il Fronimo, Gendai Guitar etc.), music editions (Doblinger, Chanterelle, DGA Editions, Edition Helbling, Orphée), CDs and books (Die Gitarre in Österreich, Stauffer & Co. - The Viennese guitar of the 19th Century, Guitaromanie – Kleines Panoptikum der Gitarre von Allix bis Zappa). His discovery of lost works by Giulio Regondi and Ivan Padovec was highly acclaimed in the guitar world.
Stefan Hackl teaches also at the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium, retiring in September 2019, and at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, from his class numerous winners of national and international competitions came out. He was invited for lectures and masterclasses at international guitar festivals and guitar research events.
In 2016 he was awarded „Professor“ by the president of the republic.
Since 2005 Stefan Hackl teaches at the University Mozarteum.
