Elisabeth Wilke studied at the Carl Maria von Weber Music Academy in Dresden. While still a student, she made her debut with the role of "Hänsel" at the Dresden State Opera, today's Semperoper Dresden. Since graduating, she has been a member of the soloist ensemble of this traditional house. She has worked with well-known directors such as Harry Kupfer, Joachim Herz, Ruth Berghaus, Christine Mielitz, Peter Konwitschny, Wolfgang Wagner and others, and conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Herbert Blomstedt, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Hans Vonk, among others.

Her extensive opera repertoire includes mainly lyrical mezzo-soprano and alto roles such as "Dorabella", "Cherubin", "Octavian", "Rosina", "Xerxes", "The Human Voice" (Poulenc), "Olga", "Carmen" , etc. As a sought-after concert and oratorio singer, an intensive collaboration developed with well-known conductors such as Peter Schreier, Erwin Ortner, Ludwig Güttler, etc. and ensembles such as the Dresdner Kreuzchor, the Arnold-Schönberg-Chor Vienna, the Leipzig Radio Choir, etc. at home and abroad. With song recitals and chamber music programs, she has made guest appearances at numerous music festivals, e.g. B. at the Ansbach Bach Week, at the Schleswig Holstein Festival, at the Dresden Music Festival, the Schwetzingen Festival, the Berlin Festival, the Liturgica Festival Jerusalem, the Edinburgh Festival, the Festival for Contemporary Music in Rome, etc. Numerous concert engagements at home and abroad as well Radio, television and CD recordings made Elisabeth Wilke known beyond the borders of Germany. The artist, who was appointed "Kammersängerin" and received the Handel Prize of the City of Halle, has been teaching at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden for several years .  In 1999 she was appointed honorary professor. She has been working at the Mozarteum University since October 1998 and has been a university professor of singing since 2000.
