Michael Mauracher


Michael Mauracher was born in Klagenfurt, Austria in 1954. He studied Art History and Mass Media at Universität Salzburg and Fine Art Photography at Salzburg College.


A co-founder of Galerie Fotohof Salzburg and lecturer of Salzburg College for many years, he is presently Senior Lecturer in the Visual Arts Program at Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg and Honorary Professor in the photography department at Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig). He also continues his work for Fotohof as a curator and co-publisher of Fothof edition.


As a photographer he became known with his "Portrait of a Man" series in which he photographed the same anonymous man over a period of 30 years.


His media reflective series "Flugplastiken" ("Flying Sculptures") and "Talwärts" ("Valleyward"), a documentary series, count also among his main works.


He lives and works in Salzburg, Vienna and Leipzig.
