The biennial International Mozart Competition is one of the world's major music competitions. Since 1975, the focus has been on the works of the genius loci Mozart, whose work is constantly being rediscovered by the young generation of highly talented interpreters: with a special festival character in the unique atmosphere of Salzburg, traditionally in the categories of voice, piano, violin and string quartet. in 2020, the horn section was also represented for the first time.

For many musicians, participation in the International Mozart Competition is an important impulse and springboard to an artistic world career - the later successes of former prize winners are impressive testimony to this: Diana Damrau, Renée Fleming, Magdalena Kožená, Genia Kühmeier, Esther Hoppe, Thomas Zehetmair or the Novus String Quartet, among others. The competition has been associated with the Fédération Mondiale des Concours Internationaux de Musique (FMCIM) since 1990.
