Emmanuel Balssa:

After his studies in the Conservatoire de Lyon and later with Maurice Gendron, Emmanuel Balssa improves early music practice at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague (Holland) with Richte van der Meer (baroque cello) then Royal Conservatory in Brussels (Belgium) with Wieland Kuijken. (viola da gamba)
In 1993, he is a graduate with special mention from the jury.

He is regularly invited to play and record with famous ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants, Bach Collegium Japan and the Orchestra of 18th century.

He devotes a great part of his time to chamber music, both with his own group (recordings of "Conversations Galantes et Amusantes" by L.G. Guillemain and "Pièces de Clavecin en Concerts" by J.P.Rameau) and with other musicians such as the Cellist Hidemi Suzuki (recording of gabrielli's sonatas) and with the pianist Remy Cardinale (L’Armée des Romantiques, recording of Franck’s quintet in 2017). In 2004 he recorded six sonatas by Salvatore Lanzetti and in 2013 CPE Bach's violoncello concerto in a minor for Accent.

He's teaching both cello and gamba in the ESMUC (Barcelona, Spain) and baroque cello in the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon (France).
