Thomas Nußbaumer

Since 1995 Thomas Nußbaumer has been working at the University Mozarteum in Innsbruck at the Department of Musicology, Department of Musical Ethnology. His research and publications focus on music and custom, carnival, folk music and National Socialism, folk music tradition in the Alpine region (especially in Western Austria and South Tyrol) as well as on the music of the Old Order Amish in Iowa (USA).

Thomas Nußbaumer (*1966 in Hall in Tirol) studied musicology and German at the University of Innsbruck, where he received his doctorate in 1998. In 2010 he habilitated at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He wrote his dissertation on the subject Alfred Quellmalz and his South Tyrolean field research (1940-42). A study of musical folklore under National Socialism (Innsbruck 2001).
