Hamburg born pianist, composer and educator, Ratko Delorko, discovered the piano as his favourite toy at the tender age of three. It took him another three years to discover the instrument an ideal creative tool for writing his youthful compositions.

He studied piano, composition and conducting in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Munich. His concert activity has taken him into the major European concert halls as well as abroad,  in such varied venues as the Berliner Philharmonie, the Alte Oper in FrankfurtLondon’s St. Martin in the Fields, the Bejing Concert Hall, the Opera House in Cairo and others.

The range of his artistic activities is also displayed in a variety of radio and television productions.  He recorded Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Songbook, as well as Antheil's Piano Sonatas for WDR. Live broadcasts include the premiere of Delorko’s MIDI Sonata for piano, computer and synthesizer, as well as various piano recitals. He also performed Bernstein's Second Symphony for Saarland Radio.

He has collaborated with such singers as Edda Moser, Felicia Weathers and Walter Berry, accompanying them not only in recitals and in productions for the television stations ZDF and 3sat. In his compositional work, Delorko dedicates himself equally to music for piano, chamber music, orchestral works and electronic music. Several of his works have been awarded prizes.

When Steinway celebrated their 150 Year Jubilee in 2003, Ratko Delorko created a program, The History Of The Steinway Piano, for concert and CD, featuring 25 period instruments, at Steinway’s request. Delorko’s most distinctive concert program evolved into The History Of The Piano, in which he presents 22 authentic period instruments in original playing condition and plays matching historical compositions for each of them while narrating the piano history.  He is the only artist to present such a program and is considered today as one of the leading experts on piano history and historical performance practice. He lectures on this topic at universities in the US and China.

Ratko Delorko recorded Beethoven’s Piano Concertos WoO 4 and No. 2 on period instruments, produced a CD with the entire oeuvre of Gershwin’s  Rhapsody In Blue, “Preludes”, etc.) and released a live recording of the Chopin Recital at the Berlin Philharmonic. Additionally, in 2002 he arranged Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition for piano and orchestra.

His book on the piano, which offers a 360° view on the profession, has been published by Staccato-Verlag, Düsseldorf. He writes for professional magazines such as „Pianonews“ and „The Piano Magazine“. Ratko Delorko has been lecturing at the University MOZ since 2019.
