Leonhard Roczek was born in Salzburg in 1983. He studied violoncello with Heidi Litschauer, Clemens Hagen (Mozarteum Salzburg) and Valentin Erben (University of Music, Vienna), and completed his Diploma with Distinction in 2010.

Leonhard is a major prizewinner of cello competitions such as Liezen Cello Competition, Gorizia and Gradus ad Parnassum. He was also awarded the Thyll-Duerr Scholarship in Switzerland. Leonhard has participated in mastercourses and workshops with Z. Nelsova, W. Boettcher, Ch. Richter, P. Demenga, among others.

He is a founder member of the Minetti Quartett, with whom he has won several prizes at important international string quartet competitions in recent years and has played concerts in North and South America, Japan, China, Australia and many European countries. The “European Rising Star Series” presented the Minetti Quartett on the stages of the prestigious European concert halls. Since then appearances included Wigmore Hall London, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Berlin Philharmonie, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Palau de la Musica Barcelona and the Vienna Musikverein. The debut album with string quartets by Joseph Haydn was released in 2009 with the Hänssler classic label followed by CDs with string quartets by Mendelssohn (2012) and Beethoven (2014). Solo appearances include the Schumann Cello Concerto with the Graz Philharmonic in the Musikverein, Vienna, in 2010. His orchestral experience includes performances with the Vienna Philharmonic and Camerata Salzburg. Furthermore he often plays piano trio, duo with piano, cello solo and also acts as a composer and rock musician since his young days (Metaphysis, Genuine Aspect). In addition to his busy performance schedule, Leonhard is also giving master classes for cello and chamber music (Kuhmo Festival/Finland, Sonoro Festival in Cuernavaca/Mexico, various American Universities, Spain and Austria).

He is teacher of chamber music at the University Mozarteum Salzburg since autumn 2014.
