Tünde Kurucz, Ao.Univ.Prof. PhD.

University Lecturer in Piano and Chamber Music

Tünde Kurucz  was born in Hungary. She had her first piano lessons from her father at the age of three. In 1972 she was accepted in the preparation class for specially talented children at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. She studied piano there in the classes of Prof. Kornél Zempléni, Imre Rohmann and Ferenc Rados from 1979. In 1984 she was awarded her concert diploma with distinction.

From 1984 to 1985 she undertook postgraduate studies at the Vienna Academy of Music with Paul Badura-Skoda.

In 1988 she was awarded second prize (the first prize was not awarded) at the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg. In 1991 she won second prize at the ARD Competition in the duo section, playing together with the violinist Mayumi Seiler.

By virtue of these successes Tünde Kurucz has an active concert career performing as a soloist and chamber musician in many European countries, at festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Mozart Week in Salzburg, the Vienna Festival, Schwetzingen, and also in Japan, the USA and in Canada.  Her chamber music partners include Mayumi Seiler, Hermann Baumann,  Thomas Zehetmair, Edith Peinemann, David Geringas, Karl Leister, Thomas Riebl,  Erich Höbarth and Esther Haffner.

Since 1985 she has played as a piano duo with Imre Rohmann.

From 1985 she was a lecturer, from 1997 lecturer on a special contract, and since 2006 she has had a professorship at the Mozarteum University.
