Art and Science

Where theory and practice come together the interdisciplinary activities of art and science focus on three corresponding areas of activity (research, teaching and public educational services).  On the basis of the unique cooperation between two universities the platform represents both in science and in art a broad, internally linked artistic and scientific spectrum of perspectives in various disciplines.
For instance, scientists and artists from communication science, English studies, Romance and Slav studies, as well as cultural, musical, theatre and literature sciences, and also visual art, drama and composition, convey and practise applied research and actively pass on knowledge. Art and science stands for a dynamic and contemporary concept of art which sees art as a medium and instrument of expression of central social phenomena and always comprises all arts and their sciences.

From 2009 to 2014 the research programme focuses on the relationship of the arts to the sciences.  Besides the transfer of interdisciplinary specialist knowledge and specific research projects the development of cooperative cultural productions is the central postulate of an accentuation that tries to link theory with practice.  Encouraging scientific and artistic talent in young people is thereby an essential aim as is cooperative networking with cultural and art institutions in the national and international context.
