Symphony Orchestra of the University Mozarteum

Audiences at concerts by the Symphony Orchestra of the Mozarteum University can repeatedly enjoy unmistakeable listening experiences, and for the students it is the challenge of playing together that makes up the fascination of the orchestra.
Many renowned orchestral musicians were able during their studies to gain their first stage experience here and, conducted by great personalities, including Nikolaus Harnoncourt, received essential momentum for their artistic development.
Dennis Russell Davies, who has conducted the orchestra since 1999, works with students in particular on the great masterpieces of orchestral literature. With the young musicians he annually works on the realisation of three to four orchestral projects which he mostly conducts himself.
In addition, renowned conductors such as Peter Gülke, Peter Schneider, Sir André Previn and Gerd Albrecht regularly appear as guests.  Students from the classes of Dennis Russell Davies and Jorge Rotter also conduct.  At the last concert before an international audience during the Salzburg Mozart Week, press reviews claimed that the orchestra conducted by Dennis Russell Davies was of “festival standard”.
