Norbert Riccabona was born in 1948 in Innsbruck. He studied piano at the Conservatory in Innsbruck and trained to be a piano teacher.
He continued his studies with Kurt Neumüller (professor at the Mozarteum).

Dr. phil. (Mathematics) at the University of Innsbruck (gained his doctorate in 1972).

1973-1982 director of a piano class at the Innsbruck Conservatory.
From 1982 professor of piano at the Mozarteum University (department of music educational theory in Innsbruck).

Performs in concerts as a soloist and chamber musician in many European countries and in the USA.
Radio, television and CD recordings in Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the USA.

Main repertoire:
Solo piano music and piano concertos from the Classical period, and music from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Chamber music in various constellations and lied accompaniment in all stylistic epochs relevant for the piano.
Participation in diverse ensembles in many performances and recordings of contemporary music, including some world premieres.

Constant involvement in various university committees, frequently in the position of chairman.
Departmental head from 1992 to 1996.

At present cooperation commissioner of the Mozarteum University (cooperation with the Tyrol Regional Conservatory).
Frequent member or expert on post-doctoral commissions and appointment committees of the Music University of Vienna.
