Martin Mumelter, born in Innsbruck; studied violin at Innsbruck Conservatory and Philadelphia College of Performing Arts with R. Wisata and J. Szanto.

Career with special interest in 20th Century Music, soloist with Wiener Symphoniker, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, Staatskapelle Berlin, Bamberger Symphoniker, Mozarteum-Orchester Salzburg and many others; with Conducors as Peter Eötvös, Hans Zender, Donald c. Runnicles, Ulf Schirmer, Lothar Zagrosek and many others, appearances at New York Carnegie Hall und Merkin Hall, Bregenzer Festspiele, Sagra Musicale Umbra, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Festwochen der Alten Musik Innsbruck, Osterfestival Hall. Preis der Kritik Internationale Musikbiennale Berlin.
 
Recordings include violin concertos by Alban Berg, Arnold Schoenberg, B.A. Zimmermann, Richard Duenser, Erich Urbanner, Alfred Schnittke, chamber music by Charles Ives (all Violin Sonatas, Piano Trio), Bela Bartok, John Cage, Erich Urbanner, Olivier Messiaen.

Teaching career:
Succeeding Guila Bustabo from 1971 to 75 professor of violin at Innsbruck Conservatory and director of the Conservatory Orchestra; through many years coach of violins at the "Österreichisches Bundesjugendorchester/Österreichische Jugendphilharmonie;
1975-85 leading his own private school for violinists, pupils being engaged by well known symphony-orchestras and baroque ensembles.

Since 1986 professor of violin at University Mozarteum Salzburg. Head of the Institute for Contemporary Music.

Orchestra and ensemble work:
during the studies in Innsbruck starting at the age of 12 playing at the Innsbruck Symphony Orchestra; concert master of Innsbruck Chamber Orchestra.

Starting from the festival "Österreichische Jugendkulturwochen" numerous world premieres, first recordings and other performances of contemporary works (chamber and solo music).

During five years (1971-76) concert tours with his Ensemble "Mumelter"s Concertodrom" whose programs confronted improvisations in various stiles with compositions of all époques.

1985-95 running in Innsbruck his own series of chamber music and commented concerts of new music.
